Frequently Asked Questions

In this section there are are a list of questions that may be relevant to some work you are thinking of having done, hopefully we will have them answered here.

  • How long will networking my equipment together take? - This is a very broad question, but if we take for example the basic networking package offered in our services and front page, 6 PC's should take less then 1 business day, half if all goes well. It is very difficult to say without knowing a company's previous setup and the type of equipment that pre-exists.

  • What is a Domain name? - A Domain name with regard to the Internet is the name associated with your company usually and is the name people will tap into their web browsers to find you, www.sonetssolutions.co.uk for example. When you register a domain name it becomes yours but not indefinitely, you have to periodically (1 to 2 years) renew your registration. If you do not the domain name could end up belonging to someone else. Once you have it you can do many things. The main use is to use it for a web site. Of course email and a way of accessing your work resources are other main uses.

  • If I gain a domain name for my company so I can have info@sonetssolutions.co.uk (for example) what happens to my previous email address that all my customers know? - Your existing email remains alongside you new email, when you open your email it will be configured to pick up mail from both addresses. Is many cases if you only have 1 PC and to keep costs low your new email will actually still go to you original pop mail account via forwarding methods from your new address. If you have many PC's and want them to have different email address, just choose one to receive the old mail addresses mail and this will be configured accordingly.

  • If I want a 5 page web site how long will it take? - Depending on how complex you want the site, approximately 2 weeks.

  • What is the hosting cost mentioned on the web site package? - In order for your site to operate once it has been created it needs to be "hosted". This means that the files that make up your site have to be placed on a server connected to the Internet permanently so users around the world can access it. This server should have resilience and backup procedures in place. Sonets Solutions can advise and set this up for you.

  • If I use Sonets Solutions frequently will I get a discount? - Yes. We can negotiate costs if we are working many hours for you. Doing continued web site maintenance for example.

  • What kind of hardware can you provide? - We can provide just about anything from PC's/Servers, Routers, Memory, Monitors etc. We prefer to supply Dell Servers and PC's but can provide other major brands.
